Alpha Phi Omega at 86
The cowards never started. The weak died on the way. Only the brave and the strong arrived. They were the men and women of Alpha Phi Omega.
December 16, 2011 is Alpha Phi Omega International Service Fraternity and Sorority’s 86th year of existence and as it should be, we have to have a celebration no matter how small or grand.
Needle and Ink
I used to say I would get all the piercing I want but never would I get inked. But when I started working, I had to remove all my earrings thinking having more than one pierce in each ear is not-so-acceptable in the working world. And then I came upon the idea of getting a tattoo and I told Karen and Tinn about it. These are two of my friends who I know would never oppose the idea. Tinn who already has one, instantly agreed we get inked together. This was the time I was so eager to donate blood (just before getting a tat), but there was no opportunity. Anyway, I learned that I could still donate blood in emergency situations in the future even if I have tats.
At first, I only wanted a phrase inked in my left arm/wrist to see if I can take the pain. The phrase would be in Hebrew and in English it says: “with the heart of a lion and spirit of the dragon.” But then Tinn and I became busy and agreed to just postpone the plan.
Months passed and I came up with an idea for a tattoo design- a symbol that would describe me as a person (in my perspective of course). So that would be the Earth Dragon (my birth sign) that would be tattooed on my back just below the nape. The dragon in circular form, more like an ouroboros but it shouldn’t be eating/biting its tail and it’s wings should be outspread. But then my design was too complicated the tattoo artist didn’t finish it on time. So I turned to my plan C instead- that is to get an inscription tattoo but not the plan A. So basically, my first two tattoos were due to an impulse. True story.
Then I remembered my friend Kat hangs out with some artists so I asked if she knows any tattoo artist personally. The answer was no, but she has a friend who knows one, that would be Shellby Reyes of 55 Tinta. We immediately negotiated with him.
Master Shellby decided to put the zodiac (at the back of my right ear) first since it is smaller. While on the process, Kat kept taking photos and I kept posing/smiling making them think I don’t feel any pain at all. It is painful but not the pain I expected. All the while, there was something stuck on my teeth that caused my attention to be diverted as I tried removing it with my tongue. :p
If you’ve seen the December issue of FHM with Ellen Adarna on the cover, you’d probably think this is where I got the idea for my rib cage/side tattoo (somehow, yes) but I really got the idea first from her hawtness, Megan Fox. Haha!
Here’s mine. I know it’s pangit and hindi ko na pinag-isipan kung pa’no siya ilalagay and the fonts are small coz I was thinking I might not take the pain if it’s bigger. It says: “No matter how stony path, some forge to the front. No matter how easy the going, some lag behind.” It’s from my sorority’s lectures.
The inking of the lower part (the first two lines) is okay but the two last lines are definitely painful although it’s not the pain that would actually send me screaming or crying. LOL At one point, Kat was telling me to just sleep and she’ll just wake me up when it’s finished coz it seemed that I didn’t feel anything.
I got an Aries sign because I’ve been fascinated with the characters Aryans possess. The inscription has been my inspiration to complete the process of application for the sorority. Why, it simply means you can never tell who will succeed. It helped me got by and still do.
You’d probably be wondering why I kept them in hidden areas. I did so plainly because I got these tattoos for myself, to feel good about myself and not for public adoration. Might sound selfish but it’s the truth. If I’d get another one (say the dragon) I’d probably place it again somewhere hidden. It feels fulfilling.
A Night of Happiness and Ugliness
A Peek Into My Life In UP
I saw this note from one of my Facebook contacts’ notes. While going through it, I can’t help but smile and reminisce my life in UP Baguio. I started answering but then I noticed just putting plain Xs on the boxes is not enough to share my experiences. So I decided to just copy-paste it and added some items.
Just mark X the ones that applied to you when you studied at UP Baguio.
[] Accompanied by parent/s during enrollment. >This is one of the things I get bitter remembering. My mother went with me to Baguio but she went back home a day before our actual admission. I just had to insist on my mind that my parent is confident that I could do things on my own.
[X] Enrolled alone. Sought the help of UPPFs. >UP Peer Facilitators, the guys in yellow really helped.

Sabik sa Subic
I had no plan of attending the Alpha Phi Omega Gamma Pi’s 39th anniversary celebration in Subic because I am broke. I jokingly told a brother to pay for my fare so I can go. I didn’t expect it but he gave in because I told him he looks like James Franco (geez I know right but seriously, they’ve got a similar smile or something).
Knowing this person well, or at least enough to judge his actions, I wasn’t really convinced he’d really pay for my fare. He is one of the most “barat” people I know. Come Saturday, I was traversing to Trinoma Mall to meet up with him (our first time to see each other after two years). I didn’t hurry since I know he would not show up on time.
And I’m definitely right. We weren’t able to leave immediately since we had to buy him board shorts and belt. It was already late afternoon when finally we boarded a Victory Liner bus in Caloocan. We left Manila at 6:30 pm with hopes that we would arrive in Subic after three hours- which later lead to him blaming me for that wrong information, heh.
We arrived at Victory Liner Olongapo terminal at around 9:30 pm, and as instructed, we took a jeep bound to Subic. We had no idea how far Subic is from Olongapo. We only got the idea it isn’t near because we had to pay P18 each. Castell, my pogi brother (who knows, he might read this, hehe) starting to get annoyed since we’re gonna have to travel again. We were instructed to take a tricycle ride to Costa Malaga where our distinguished alumnus Jun Ylagan III has a house which he volunteered to be this year’s venue. We had no idea where to get off from the jeep. I just had to observe where this one passenger who’s also supposed to go to Subic (as he said), would alight the vehicle. When the driver pulled over for that passenger to exit, that was only time we remembered asking the driver where the tricycles going to Club Morroco are. “Nalampasan na natin.”
Alpha Phi Omega Sounds Fresh: Redefining Acoustic

Location: University of the Philippines Baguio Auditorium

Battle of the bands, yes it is. But there’s a twist!
APO Gamma Pi thought of challenging various UP Baguio bands to show off their talents, skills and flexibility in the first ever sounds fresh: an acoustic battle of the bands.
APO Gamma Pi residents believe that acoustic never left the limelight despite the fact that musicians have invented so many genres to express their music.
