When In Baguio: Bar Hop

Because we were just going to bed at 6 AM, I practically chose to laze around the whole day and because of the fact that I’ve got no appointments, haha.
In the afternoon though, I met up with my friend Bang at SM, where I almost hoarded books from Booksale. Because they’ve got a great selection and way cheaper prices compared to their Metro Manila branches. It was supposed to be a get-together with my blockmates since I rarely go up but Bangs is the only one who made it.
When in Baguio: Experience the Epic Night Life
When we were in SM, I brought Diana and Emman to the souvenir shops located at the outer part of the ground floor. While in Sagada Weaving, the two came with a crazy idea of still pursuing our Sagada trip. The plan: they’ll get absent from work for a day so we could spend a day in Sagada. As for myself, I’ve already let go of the Sagada trip but then if they want to, I’ll have to accompany them. They really really are desperate. On the other hand, Shyne, Rein and Ren planned to go home by noon time because they’re already short of budget, which only made the Sagada plan more viable.
So the next day, we woke up early, well, I woke up at around 5:30am but immediately went back to bed (hey, it’s cold!). Besides, with the kind of weather, I was pretty sure there were no buses going up yet. It was past 7 when we went out but we left our things at the Inn, because we weren’t really expecting much.
Indeed, it was another disappointment. But then I’ve completely moved on by that time, so it was fine with me. I dunno for Diana and Emman though. So what I did was bring them to the market and Maharlika Complex so they can buy pasalubong. We went back to the Inn and then checked out altogether at past noon. However, something made up for our nearly ruined day.

Finally, Oh My Gulay has opened! We’ve been going there for the past days but they were on a renovation or something. Just like me 6 years ago, the first-timers at OMG was so amazed with the place so they took loads of photos. Also, there was an ongoing exhibit by all-female artists at VOCAS.
When in Baguio: Admire the Beau
Thanks to my frat/soro brods and sisters who were at the prime of their drunkenness, I was awaken by their noise at quarter pass 6. Another thing I love and hate about Baguio is the extremely cold mornings. I needed to leave asap to check if there are trips going to Sagada. But it turned out there was none. Of course we were disappointed but what is another day in the city of Baguio, we thought. We sure hoped and prayed Halsema Highway would be cleared immediately and there’d be trips the next day.
After getting our lazy asses off of bed, we went to town for eats. For the second time, Oh My Gulay was closed. So we went to the nearest ‘only in Baguio’ restaurant, Jack’s Rice.

Happy Earth Day!
During that first summer I spent in Baguio, I joined the Earth Day celebration happening every 22nd of April. For a day, Session Road is car-less and the whole stretch of the city’s busiest street becomes a canvass for participating artists, environmental organizations, children and even passersby who want to express their concerns regarding environmental issues through chalk-drawing. Although some people don’t approved of the activity, (even my mother commented that people were just messing up the road, hehe) for us, it’s our way of saying how we want the world to be. Y’ know just expressing our thoughts in that way.
For few hours, Session Road will be filled with amazing artworks reflecting the “ideal” Earth from the participants views and the words accompanying their art plead for help and immediate action to our dearest save mother Earth.
What’s nice with these activity is that there are lots of children participating in the chalk-drawing activity. It’s just like a game for them but if you look closely at their drawings, you could see their raw ideas about saving the Earth.
Photos were taken from 2008 Earth Day Celebration at Session Road, Baguio City.
When in Baguio, Drink
In my four-year stay in Baguio City, I can say that night life in the place can be one of the best a person can ever experience.
Baguio City at night is breathtaking with all the flickering lights viewable when you’re somewhere elevated. Go and enjoy stargazing, moon-gazing or meteor shower watching. These are all of course, possible provided that fog doesn’t get in the view. If you are one adventurous soul, you can go out and experience what it’s like to be in the humid Baguio streets at night. There are a lot of activities to choose from.
It’s early, why not go to the night market? Second hand clothes, bags, shoes and other stuff all thrifted are sold in the stretch of Session and Harrison Roads. Night market, although illegal ,is one of the attractions of the city. Out for a date? Burnham Park never gets old for lovers. Go boating or just walking around the park while enjoying binatog or nilagang mais. For those who are out for just plain food trip, SM Baguio is the place to be. If you know the city well, you could also drive to other restaurants and cafes in the outskirts of Central Business District (CBD).
